Hip Hop performer artist Jonzi D leaps into the wildly imaginative world of Dance Film, where no person or object is safe from the irresistible, irrepressible force of choreography – from a break-dancer on crutches to pirouetting paper clips.
Combining the best of international acquisitions with newly commissioned work from the UK, 4Dance showcases a series of dance creations for the small screen: a strange man on a shooting stick, eats his sandwiches beside a nuclear power station; a couple perform a love duet whilst wearing paper hats; three sisters get covered in chalk and dance turned upside down in an aerial choreography of risk and reliance.
There is work by the masters of the dislocated body – Wayne McGregor and Ravi Deepres alongside a mesmerising piece by the Honey Brothers and ex-Royal ballet star Tom Sapsford; an eccentric and humorous romance love story from Shelly Love and an un-missable star turn by a Norwegian diving board.
A celebration of dance films from around the world presented by UK Hip Hop artist Jonzi D. Highlights include IN STONE, a powerful solo celebrating Gaudi’s Barcelona architecture, some refreshing English TEA TIME activity and a dancing DIVA. Specially commissioned films include ROUND 10 a battle of a volatile relationship; the mesmerising film FALLING, inspired by an astronaut’s memories of space; and FRESH, a Spaghetti Western that shoots from the hip … from the knee down.
Films were co-produced by Channel 4 and Arts Council England, ABC Television and Australia Council for the Arts.
