JUDITH WEIR : ARMIDA AND OTHER STORIES

2005   50′ Channel 4
Director Teresa Griffiths’ beautifully-crafted film looks at different areas of composer Judith Weir’s work.

The documentary includes story-telling projects to chamber and choral music, featuring outstanding performances by long-time collaborators including Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, The Schubert Ensemble and more recently, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City.

The film also follows the development of ARMIDA, Judith’s new opera specially written for Channel 4, including access to rehearsals, recording and location filming.

Creatively-filmed performances are combined with comment and reflection from Judith herself and the other performers involved, giving a fascinating glimpse into the musical world of one of the UK’s most inventive composers.
