Monica Young moved to the Yorkshire village of Reeth in 1974 and it was there that her creative development flourished. This video shows Monica at work in her studio, her ingenious set of tools, the kiln she made, and her magnificent pots.

Monica’s pots are relatively simple forms with dramatic curves, beautifully textured surfaces and warm earthy colours. Each vast pot took months to make and most years she would complete only two or three. They are vivid reminders of a remarkable woman. Monica Young was born in Paris 1929; she died in October 2004.
