‘Y’ FLAMENCO

1995 23′ Dance Documentary BBC
Everyone looks proud and sexy when they’re dancing flamenco. This is the premise behind Margaret Williams’ warm and hilarious look at amateur aficionados of the fiery dance form of Spain.

The film includes the underground construction project manager who practices the Sevillanas while waiting for meetings, to the mother and daughter team whose passion is weekly lessons and performance nights at the local bodega in Vauxall, these are dancers who are every bit as committed to their art form as any professional.

‘Delightful documentary about people with a passion for the flamenco. They include a female project-manager on the Jubilee Line extension who practises her rhythmic stamping and swishing in her hut at lunchtime. No one can fail to warm to the enthusiasm of it all. Finger-clickin’ good.’
